法学院是新疆大学实行校——院两极管理以来组建的第一所学院。 新疆大学于1980年成立法律系，2001年4月组建为法学院。经过30多年的发展，法学院现有2个普通本科专业（法学、知识产权），1个法学一级学科博士学位点，1个法学一级学科硕士学位点，6个法学二级学科硕士学位点（国际法学、法学理论、法律史、民商法学、宪法与行政法学、刑法学）和1个法律硕士专业学位点（jm）。学院下设教研中心 7 个，1个教育部西部基层法律人才教育培养基地、1个国家知识产权（新疆）培训基地、1个自治区普通高校人文社科重点研究基地（新疆稳定与地区经济发展法制保障研究基地）及中国与中亚国家比较法、民族..与法制建设、地区恐怖主义与犯罪学、西部经济环境与法制建设4个研究中心，1 个图书信息资料中心。学院拥有藏书 16000 余册，各类专业学术期刊数百种，合订期刊 3200 余册，现刊 115 种，人大报刊复印资料 45 种。法学院师资力量雄厚，拥有专任教师64 名，其中正，副教授 40 名，具有博士学位的教师 19 名，硕士学位的教师 15名，在读博士9人；具有硕士以上学位的教师占教师总数的54%；具有高级职称的教师占教师总数的61.9%，承担着全院数千余名各类学生的教学任务和学院科研任务。
